About Luis Iga Garza:
Luis Iga Garza is a Mexican award winning Latinx Director, Producer & Artist born in Saltillo Mexico. He is a pioneer in the Latinx inclusion movement with his most recent work, the award-winning Slasher Feature Film Murder in the Woods, the first All-American Slasher with a full “people of color cast.” The film starts Jose Julian (A Better Life, Spare Parts), Chelsea Rendon (McFarland USA, Vida), Catherine Toribio (Paranormal Activity, McFarland USA, Jane the Virgin), Jeanette Samano (ISA, FFC), featuring Danny Trejo (Machete), Soledad St. Hilaire (Ocean’s Thirteen, Real Women Have Curves), Kurt Caceres (Sons of Anarchy) and Rolando Molina (Family Guy).
Film critic Jim Hemphill from Filmmaker Magazine calls Murder in the Woods “a smart, funny, and very effective horror movie that recalls classics of the genre like FRIDAY THE 13TH and SCREAM but has a voice and style all its own.” Mr. Iga Garza was awarded the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant and the Luminys Systems Lighting Grant for the production of this film. The film premiered at the renowned Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara en LA (FICG in LA) and has sold out every festival screening to date including the TCL Chinese Theatre twice. The film won the top award at the LA Skins Film Festival and the Denver Xican Indie Film Fest and it has 6 wins and 10 nominations in the festival circuit.
Additionally Mr. Iga Garza also finished Alive a proof of concept short film that he Co-wrote, Directed and Produced starring Mexican Star Pepe Gamez.
In Television, Mr. Iga directed over 70 episodes of the news segment FashionOne’s Fashion News which reaches an audience of over 420 million households worldwide through cable, satellite and online. He is also a Co-EP on an animated comedy series which is being developed by John Cryer’s production company.
Mr. Iga Garza received an MFA in Film and Television Production from the renowned School of Cinematic Arts at USC. During his tenure at USC, he received multiple awards including the Annenberg Fellowship, the Montes Scholarship, and the USC LAA Scholarship among others.
While at USC Mr. Iga Garza focused on directing & producing films under top Hollywood TV and Film directors & producers.
Regarding his Art, Mr. Iga Garza attributes methods and his use of colors on influences from his heritage. Born into a large family of Middle Eastern and Spanish dissent, Mr. Iga Garza was immersed in a culture where artists use rich graphics and the vibration of colors to awaken our senses. Mr. Iga Garza creativity was apparent at a very young age. As a child, he developed a passion for filmmaking, photography, sculpture, printmaking, and multimedia. By twelve, he designed a brand identity for Ropa Modelo, S.A. a jean company in Mexico.
